Exam sessions are available twice each month; the first Saturday (morning) and the third Sunday (afternoon). Note the times:
1st Saturday – 10:30 am
3rd Sunday - 1:30 pm
By appointment only. If no examinee signs up, no examiners will either.

In the break room. Staff at the museum entrance will direct you; please let them know you’re there for a radio exam.
Flexibility: If you’re ready to take an exam but can’t make the regular exam dates, please contact us with your availability. We can probably accommodate you.

Fee: Amateur: $14. Applicants may take as many exam elements as they can successfully pass for the one fee.
Another fee is charged to retake a failed examination.
Commercial: $50 per sitting for the first 2 elements taken + $25 for each additional element.
The Treasure Chest Gift Shop in the museum carries study materials for the amateur and commercial exams. These include Gordon West’s Technician Class, General Class, and Extra Class books. For commercial, the General Radiotelephone book and the GMDSS Elements 7/9 Question Pool are also available. Members of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum Foundation qualify for a 10% discount on purchases in the shop. |
